What material can screw conveyor transport in dust collection system?

In dust‑collection systems,screw conveyors are commonly used to discharge collected dust from dust hoppers.They rely on rotating spiral blades to push materials forward.They adapt to powdery and small‑particle dry materials,while sticky,moist,large‑block,abrasive or corrosive substances have strict restrictions.
Suitable materials
1.Dry powdery dust:Baghouse collected fly ash,cement dust,limestone powder,flour dust,talcum powder.
2.Fine granular materials:Sand particles,mineral powder,pellet fines,grain dust.
3.Light bulk dust:Wood dust,plastic powder,dry welding fume dust.
These materials flow smoothly,will not easily stick to spiral blades,and can realize continuous ash discharge under normal working conditions.
Conditionally applicable materials(need structural optimization)
1.Slightly abrasive dust such as metal grinding dust:Adopt wear‑resistant blade surface treatment,reduce rotating speed,otherwise blades and casing will wear rapidly.
2.Slightly corrosive dust:Use stainless‑steel shaft and casing;ordinary carbon steel will rust and fail quickly.
Unsuitable materials
1.Moist,damp,sticky dust:Wet sludge,hygroscopic dust,dust mixed with water mist.Material will adhere to spiral blades,form caking,cause blockage,shaft overload and motor burnout.If spray‑scrubber sludge needs discharging,screw conveyor is generally not preferred.
2.Large lumps and foreign debris:Large hard blocks,welding slag,scrap metal fragments.They will jam spiral clearance,scratch casing and twist the spiral shaft.Pre‑screening is required if unavoidable.
3.Fibrous,tangled materials:Long textile fibers,rope‑like debris.They wrap around the central shaft,lock rotation and lead to equipment stall.
4.Easily self‑igniting explosive dust:Some combustible fine dust can be transported,but must equip explosion‑proof motor,pressure‑relief port and nitrogen protection.High‑risk combustible dust is not recommended,because material accumulation inside may trigger smoldering.
5.Highly corrosive wet dust:Strong acid or alkali dust mixed with moisture will corrode carbon‑steel spiral in short time.
Key operation notes for dust‑collection system
-Screw conveyor installed under dust hopper should control filling rate at 15‑30%.Over‑filling easily causes blockage.
-Keep dust dry.Condensation inside dust collector will make dust damp and lead to conveyor failure.
-Regularly check blade wear,shaft deformation and motor overload current.
