Can FRP spray tower handle high‑temperature exhaust gas?

Standard FRP spray towers cannot sustain long‑term operation under high‑temperature exhaust gas.The allowable working temperature mainly depends on the resin type used for tower lining.Ordinary orthophthalic or isophthalic polyester FRP can only endure continuous exhaust gas below 60°C.Excessively hot flue gas will cause resin softening, blistering, inner lining delamination, fiber exposure and accelerated tower corrosion, shortening equipment service life sharply.
Vinyl ester resin FRP is the high‑temperature resistant option.General vinyl‑ester FRP spray towers permit continuous working temperature of 70‑80°C,short‑term peak temperature can reach 90‑95°C.Even vinyl ester material is not suitable for sustained temperature above 100°C.High‑temperature waste gas often carries steam, acid mist and corrosive components;thermal stress together with chemical erosion will speed up lining damage.
If high‑temperature exhaust gas must be treated by FRP spray tower, pre‑cooling measures are mandatory.Common pretreatment solutions include indirect cooling heat exchanger, direct spray quenching,or mixing with cold ambient air to drop gas temperature down to FRP allowable range before entering the tower.Without cooling, hot flue gas will damage FRP lining even if the gas is only short‑time over‑heated.
Additional risks for hot exhaust gas working conditions.High‑temperature gas easily evaporates circulating spray liquid, leading to salt crystallization inside packing, nozzles and demister, triggering blockage failure.Hot‑humid corrosive gas accelerates aging of internal PP packing, nozzles and demister. When temperature fluctuates repeatedly, thermal expansion‑contraction cycles produce micro‑cracks on FRP inner anticorrosive layer.
For exhaust gas stably above 100°C,FRP spray tower is not recommended.Alternative equipment such as PP‑lined steel tower, stainless‑steel scrubber or graphite spray tower should be considered. When retrofitting existing FRP tower for slightly‑elevated‑temperature gas, upgrade tower inner layer to high‑performance vinyl ester resin, and select high‑temperature resistant internal filling parts.
To sum up:ordinary FRP spray tower is not fit for high‑temperature exhaust gas.Vinyl‑ester FRP can cope with medium‑high temperature below 80°C with strict temperature control and pre‑cooling setup.Long‑term gas above 100°C needs other material scrubbing equipment instead.
