Is baghouse dust collector suitable for high temperature flue gas treatment?

Baghouse dust collectors can be applied to high-temperature flue gas purification,yet they cannot operate directly under excessively high temperatures without targeted matching configurations.The core limitation lies in the heat resistance performance of filter bags,which is the key component deciding the applicable temperature range.

1.Classification of applicable temperature zones and supporting filter bag options

Normal temperature condition(＜120°C)

Ordinary polyester needle felt filter bags are adopted,widely used in woodworking,general machining,ordinary grinding dust collection.It cannot bear continuous high-temperature flue gas.

Medium-high temperature(120°C~180°C)

PPS filter bags are the mainstream choice.They feature good heat resistance,hydrolysis resistance and acid resistance,perfectly suited for cement plants,boiler flue gas,thermal power auxiliary dust removal within this temperature interval.

High temperature(180°C~260°C)

PTFE composite filter bags or fiberglass filter bags are recommended.Fiberglass materials stand steady long-term operation under 260°C high temperature,applicable to steel smelting furnaces,kiln tail flue gas,industrial incinerator waste gas.

Ultra-high temperature(＞260°C)

Ordinary baghouses are not directly available.A front-end cooling system must be installed first,such as air cooling dilution,water spray cooling,heat exchanger cooling,to lower flue gas temperature down to the tolerable range of filter bags before entering the dust collector.

2.Necessary auxiliary designs for high-temperature working conditions

Whole machine thermal insulation layer

Wrap the shell of the baghouse with thermal insulation cotton to prevent external condensation.Condensed water will cause dust to stick firmly to filter bags,resulting in severe bag blockage and failure of ash cleaning.

Anti-condensation air intake structure

Preheat the equipment before startup to avoid cold wall contact with hot flue gas forming dew point corrosion and bag pasting.

High-temperature resistant accessories

Adopt high-temperature resistant pulse valves,sealing strips and skeleton anticorrosion coating to avoid aging,deformation and air leakage under long-term high temperature.

3.Special scenarios needing caution

Flue gas containing sulfur dioxide,chloride gas at high temperature:Must use acid-resistant PTFE coated filter bags to resist chemical corrosion at high temperature.

Flue gas with open sparks(smelting,cutting flue gas):Install spark catcher at the inlet to burn out sparks in advance and prevent filter bag burning damage.

Conclusion

With matched high-temperature filter bags,thermal insulation structure and necessary front-end temperature reduction measures,the baghouse dust collector is an economical and efficient solution for high-temperature flue gas dust removal.Unmodified conventional bag dust collectors are not suitable for direct high-temperature flue gas processing.
