Can activated carbon adsorption box work with catalytic combustion machine?

Activated carbon adsorption box can perfectly work together with catalytic combustion equipment,and this combined process is one of the mainstream solutions for medium‑low concentration volatile organic compounds(VOCs).The whole set adopts adsorption‑desorption‑catalytic combustion mode,which solves two core drawbacks of single activated‑carbon box:frequent carbon replacement and high operating cost for large air volume low‑concentration waste gas.

Under normal working conditions,large‑volume,low‑concentration VOC waste gas first passes pre‑treatment units such as filter to remove paint mist,dust and oil.Then waste gas flows into activated carbon adsorption boxes.Organic pollutants are trapped by activated carbon,and purified gas is discharged up to standard.When activated carbon approaches saturation,hot air heated by catalytic combustion unit is introduced into carbon boxes for desorption.High‑temperature hot air strips organic substances from activated‑carbon pores.The desorbed gas with high‑concentration organics is sent to catalytic combustion chamber.Under the action of catalyst at 200‑400°C,organic components are oxidized and decomposed into carbon dioxide and water vapor,releasing heat for self‑thermal cycle.After desorption is completed,activated carbon is cooled down and restores adsorption capacity for repeated use.

Multiple activated carbon boxes are required for continuous operation.At least two sets of carbon boxes work alternately:one group for adsorption,the other group for desorption and cooling.If only one carbon box is equipped,production must stop during desorption process.

Strict pre‑treatment is critical for stable combined operation.Dust,paint mist and oil fume must be filtered before entering carbon boxes.Particulate pollutants will block activated‑carbon pores and cover catalyst surface,leading to carbon failure and catalyst poisoning.Waste gas temperature entering adsorption box should be controlled below 45°C;excessive temperature reduces activated‑carbon adsorption performance.Waste gas with high humidity should be dehumidified.Halogen,sulfur and phosphorus‑containing exhaust gas are not suitable for this process,as they will permanently deactivate catalyst.

Key safety points cannot be ignored.Desorption temperature needs precise control.Excessively high desorption temperature may cause activated carbon smoldering risk.Concentration of desorbed organic gas must be kept below lower explosive limit,to avoid explosion hazard.Equip temperature monitoring,over‑temperature alarm,fire‑extinguishing and nitrogen protection devices.Catalyst needs regular inspection and replacement after long‑term operation.

This combined process is widely used for printing,paint spraying,coating,rubber and plastic processing industries.For ultra‑high‑concentration organic waste gas,activated carbon‑catalytic combustion system is not suitable;condensation or direct combustion should be considered.
